An Overall Perspective for the Study of Emerging Contaminants in Karst Aquifers

Karst aquifers are essential drinking water sources, representing about 25% of the total available sources globally. Groundwater ecosystems consist fissured carbonate rocks commonly covered with canopy collapse sinkholes. The open nature karst makes them susceptible to rapidly transporting contaminants from surface in dissolved and particulate forms. principal aim this review is contribute filling gap knowledge regarding major concerns affecting understanding their vulnerabilities dynamics. groundwater pollutants relevance detailed present work, including well-known issues, such as input agriculture its role quality. Emerging microplastics, still poorly studied systems, were also considered. Case studies for each typology pollutant highlighted, relative environments. Final considerations underlined an approach studying environments more focused on dynamics links among different inputs drivers than individual impacts.
